You may have heard Dr. Rob mention that at Alive Chiropractic, we use the chiropractic technique called Torque Release Technique, or TRT. Ever wonder exactly what that is or how it works? In this article, we’ll explain how it works, and why we use it in our office!
TRT is a relatively newer chiropractic technique, but it is the most advanced technique there is. What’s so great about this technique is that there is no guess work. TRT adjustments are highly effective and the effects last longer than any other technique. This technique also focuses on eliminating the primary misalignments in the spine, which are typically symptom free and difficult to pinpoint, as pain usually comes from secondary or tertiary misalignments. However, it’s our primary misalignments that are the source of the health issues that we want to eliminate using this technique.
Think about having a bacterial infection that causes symptoms of fever and nausea. If you get rid of the fever and nausea, the pain and infection still exist. However, if you can eliminate the underlying problem of the infection, the fever and nausea will go away as well. This is just like finding the primary misalignment, or the root, of your health concerns.
Though TRT is utilized with the Integrator at Alive Chiropractic, the Integrator is actually just a tool for the specific adjustments. TRT is the process of finding which area to adjust. When Dr. Rob pushes down on your feet, he is engaging your Achilles reflex. This reflex is the authority of the body that allows him to find primary misalignments. This reflex reflects the health of the nervous system by demonstrating a short leg, long leg, or balanced legs.
When Dr. Rob uses light pressure checks on your back, neck, and hips, the pressure sends signals up to your brain. When a signal is not being sent properly or is being interfered with, this will balance your legs out and show him where the primary misalignment is. Having you turn your head from left to right puts a stress on specific vertebrae in your neck. If your legs balance with your head turned, this again shows where a primary misalignment is. Every time you come in for an adjustment, Dr. Rob goes through all these checks, which are collectively called Torque Release Technique.
It may seem pretty simple, but there are a lot of factors that Dr. Rob checks and pays attention to that you may not even realize! He is paying attention to how your legs balance, your breathing pattern, your heels, any muscle tension and many other signs while adjusting. Then, when he actually adjusts, though it may seem to only be 3-4 areas, he is actually affecting up to ten bones above or below the area. If you had too many adjustments, your body would go into defense mode, and actually slow the healing process. By giving your body a couple of adjustments and time to stabilize, this allows the body to heal optimally. The repetition of these adjustments causes your body to improve and function better over time, and stabilize without regressing back to how it was before you came in!
